(ANSA) - Vatican City, April 28 - Pope Francis reached out to participants and guests of a Rome charity event via video broadcast on Tuesday with a message of hope for "devotion, shelter and generosity" towards those in need.
"How I wish that Rome could shine with devotion for those who suffer, offer shelter to those fleeing from war and death, availability, smiles and generosity towards those who have lost hope," the pontiff said in the video message released prior to the Tuesday evening Caritas Catholic charity event at Rome's Teatro Brancaccio theater.
"Who would ever think that a homeless person is someone to learn from? Who imagines he may be a saint?" Teatro Brancaccio is hosting a spoken word event featuring homeless people sharing their experiences in an effort to raise money for Caritas.
Pope Francis's video message is part of the pontiff's ongoing prolific social media outreach, which include nine Twitter profiles in nine different languages.
