Pope warns of jealousy, pride during audience in St. Peter's Square

(ANSA) - Vatican City, August 27 - Human pride too often leads to sins against unity in the Catholic Church and among Christian communities, Pope Francis warned Wednesday during his weekly general audience in St. Peter's Square.
    The pope, whose audiences during the summer had been intermittent and sometimes held indoors, also took the opportunity to travel among the crowd in his popemobile, stopping to greet a disabled child and kiss other kids in the sunny piazza.
    But his message was stern.
    "We have an intercessor in Jesus, who prays, especially in his passion, for our unity with him and the Father, and with each other," said the pope.
    "Unfortunately, we know well the sins against unity - jealousy, envy, antipathy - which come about when we place ourselves at the center and which occur even in our parish communities," he said.
    "God's will, however, is that we grow in our capacity to welcome one another, to forgive and to love, and to resemble Jesus," said Francis. The pope travelled during the summer, including a recent trip to South Korea, which meant some of his regular Wednesday general audiences were cancelled.
