(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 5 - Italian skiing star Sofia Goggia must "take all the time she needs" to recover after breaking her leg and ankle in a training accident, Lombardy Governor Attilio Fontana said on social media Monday.
"A year flies by and we look with hope and confidence at the incredible strength of our skier from Bergamo, in view of the 2025 World Championships and the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics," he said, thinking back to the "countless sporting miracles she has accustomed us to over the years".
Bergamo Mayor Giorgio Gori also wished the skier a speedy recovery.
"What bad luck Sofia," wrote the first citizen on X.
"A hug from all the people of Bergamo, get well and come back soon," he added.
Goggia, 31, suffered a fractured tibia and malleolus in a training fall at Pontedilegno.
The 2018 downhill Olympic Champion and four-time World Cup-winner is currently top of this season's women's downhill World Cup rankings with 350 points after five races out of nine, 89 more than second-placed Stephanie Venier of Austria. (ANSA).
