(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 23 - AC Milan fans are celebrating their team's 19th Serie A crown and their first scudetto since 2011 after Sunday's 3-0 win at Sassuolo on the last day of the season sealed the title race.
The win enabled Stefano Pioli's side to stay two points ahead of outgoing champions Inter, who beat Sampdoria 3-0 at San Siro.
It is also Milan's first Serie A title since ex-premeir Silvio Berlusconi sold the club in 2017.
Milan police said around 50,000 people took to the streets on the night between Sunday and Monday to celebrate the triumph.
The team are staging a parade in the city on Monday.
Pioli's Serie A champions medal was stolen during the celebrations.
The Serie A League has said they will give the coach another one.
At the other end of the table, Salernitana completed a 'great escape' from relegation despite being thrashed 4-0 at home by Udinese.
The Salerno side were let off the hook by Cagliari failing to do better than a goalless draw at already relegated bottom side Venezia.
The Sardinian and Venetian teams go down to Serie B long with Genoa.
Salernitana spent most of the season at the bottom of the table and had looked doomed but enjoyed a huge improvement in form after Davide Nicola replaced Stefano Colantuono as their coach in February. (ANSA).
