Athletics: Jacobs says lost weight due to intestinal problem

Double Olympic sprint champion sees room for improvement

(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 12 - Italy's double sprint Olympic gold medallist Marcell Jacobs said Thursday that he was better after an intestinal problem forced him to pull out of a race in Nairobi last weekend that was meant to be his first 100 metres since his triumph at Tokyo 2020, while adding that he had lost a lot of weight. "I've recovered and today I'll be back on the track. It wasn't easy because I was on the other side of the world," Jacobs said that the presentation of a book written by his mental coach, Nicoletta Romanazzi.
    "I've slimmed down a lot but I can (usually) recover what I lose in a month in five days.
    "Let's hope that it's the same this time too.
    "I have to see how I am physically and how long it will take to be able to start pushing again to reach 100%".
    Jacobs, who won the 100 metres at the Olympics and helped Italy triumph in the 4x100m sprint relay, has proven his heroics in Tokyo were no flute with some strong showings in indoor events this season.
    He said that he thinks he can sill improve "really a lot" in the 100 metres. (ANSA).
