(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 28 - Bologna boss Sinisa Mihajlovic said
"I want to get in first this time" in announcing that his
leukemia has returned despite a bone marrow transplant at the
weekend.
"My recovery after the transplant was excellent, but
unfortunately these illnesses are sneaky bastards," said the
53-year-old former Roma, Sampdoria, Lazio and Inter defender and
former Catania, Sampodria, Serbia, Torino and AC Milan manager.
"There have been some alarm bells from my latest tests and there
could be the risk of a recurrence. To stop that happening I'll
have to do a course of therapy that can nip any negative
hypothesis in the bud. This time I won't do a slide tackle on an
opponent who is heading for goal, but I'll get in first to stop
him setting off".
Mihajlovic, who first first revealed he had leukemia in 2019,
said he is starting treatment this week.
"We'll give leukemia another lesson," said the Serbia great,
adding that "this time I'm not going to cry, I know what to do".
Mihajlovic's former clubs Roma, Milan, Lazio and others sent
messages of sympathy and encouragement saying "Forza Sinisa" and
"never give up", as did many politicians. (ANSA).
