(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 21 - Italy's Marcell Jacobs proved he really is the world's fastest man and that his triumph in the 100m at last year's Olympics was no fluke by winning the 60-metres dash at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Belgrade at the weekend.
Jacobs, who also helped Italy win the sprint relay at Tokyo 2020, came from behind to beat American pair Christian Coleman and Marvin Bracy to the line in a European record time of 6.41 seconds on Saturday.
The triumph made him the first reigning Olympic 100m champion to claim the world indoor 60m crown.
"This is fantastic: to be Olympic champion and now world indoor champion," said Jacobs.
"It's amazing to have the European record. I can't wait to go to the outdoors with the Americans.
"They are great athletes. We will try to compete fast again outdoors." (ANSA).
