(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 8 - Reigning Olympic downhill champion Sofia Goggia said Tuesday that she doesn't know if she will be fit enough to defend her title at the Beijing 2022 Games after suffering a knee injury racing at Cortina d'Ampezzo late last month.
The 29-year-old did intense physiotherapy after damaging anterior cruciate ligaments in her knee and fracturing her fibula.
"It's been a tough few weeks," Goggia told Rai Sport on the slopes of Yanqing.
"It's a big success just to be here, but I can't guarantee anything.
"My condition is what it is.
"I still have a little time but I can't guarantee anything, not even that I will participate in the downhill "I will give it my all.
"I thank the Italian people for the affection shown to me.
"I'm sorry about not being able to be the usual competitive Goggia. We'll assess things day by day".
Goggia had been been in stunning form before the injury, winning four out of five World Cup downhills this season. (ANSA).
