(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 8 - Marcell Jacobs said Tuesday that he was looking for more glory in 2022 after his golden sprint double at Tokyo 2020 as he was awarded the Athlete of the Year prize from the Foreign Press Association in Italy.
"It's a great honour for me to receive this prize and a little unexpected," said Jacobs, who won the 100 metres at last year's Olympics and helped Italy to gold in the 4x100m relay.
"It was an incredible season and we hope to repeat it this year".
The 27-year-old returned to action for the first time since Tokyo at indoor meet in Berlin last week, winning the 60 metres with an impressive time of 6.51 seconds.
"I feel very good physically," he said.
"We did an excellent job to be able to start in the best possible way.
"The fitness peak will be at the world championships but it's a better start than last year".
Jacobs said he would do some 200 metre races this year in view of competing at that distance in earnest after the 2024 Olympics in Paris.
He added that he had not heard back from Usain Bolt after he challenged him to a charity game of 'capture the flag' in response to the Jamaican saying he would have won the 100m final in Tokyo if he had been competing.
"I hope he gets back to me soon" said Jacobs.
"Help me, send him a message". (ANSA).
