(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 4 - Reigning Olympic downhill champion Sofia Goggia has won her injury battle and will be back to defend her title in Beijing, Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) President Giovanni Malagò said Friday.
Goggia suffered a knee injury racing at Cortina d'Ampezzo late last month.
The 29-year-old did intense physiotherapy despite damaging anterior cruciate ligaments in her knee and fracturing her fibula.
She was replaced by snowboarder Michela Moioli as Italy's flag-bearer at the opening ceremony Friday.
Malagò said "I have received a private video from Sofia Goggia: she's ready, she's coming back" Moioli said "I send a big hug to Sofia Goggia, who I'm certain will come here and will give her best like all of us. We're waiting for you Sofy!"." (ANSA).
