(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 26 - Italy's only ever major winner, 2018 British Open champ Francsco Molinari, said Wednesday that he missed winning after a long barren spell partly due to injury and was looking forward to the Ryder Cup in Rome next year as well as the Paris Olympics the year after.
Molinari, 39, became the first European to win five points from five matches at the 2018 Ryder Cup after a sensational week in Paris.
"I'm missing winning and I hope success may come soon," the Piedmont-born star said in an interview with ANSA.
"Missing the Olympics due to injury was hard and I'm now looking to Paris 2024, the Games are already in my thoughts, just like the Ryder Cup in 2023.
"And a propos of the Olympics I'd like to wish a speedy recovery to (skier) Sofia Goggia, she is a very great (champion). Will Luke Donald be Europe's captain in the coming challenge with the US in Rome? I think he's the likeliest name".
Molinari recently returned to form with a sixth place at The American Express in California and is this week playing the Farmers Insurance Open. (ANSA).
