Italy and Juve winger injured in 4-3 win at Roma

(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 10 - Juventus and Italy striker Federico Chiesa suffered a season-ending anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear in Sunday's 4-3 win at Roma, the Bianconeri said Monday.
The Turin giants, who came from 3-1 down to beat the Giallorossi and keep their European qualification dreams alive, said Chiesa would have surgery in the coming days.
It is a major blow for Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri and also for Italy coach Roberto Mancini who will be without the Euro 2020 star for a World Cup qualifying playoff semifinal against North Macedonia in March and then probably a final against either Turkey or Portugal.
Chiesa, 24, son of former Sampdoria, Parma, Fiorentina, Lazio and Italy forward Enrico, has 38 Italy caps and four goals for his country.
He joined Juve on loan from Fiorentina in 2020 and has scored 10 goals in 43 games for the Old Lady.
Chiesa was one of he stand-outs in Italy's triumph in the Euros last summer where the Azzurri beat England on penalties in the final at Wembley. (ANSA).
