(ANSA) - Rome, October 31 - The 2019 Giro d'Italia will start
Saturday May 11 in Bologna and end in Verona on June 2,
organisers said Wednesday.
The 102nd round-Italy race, the world's second greatest tour
after the Tour de France, will have 21 stages and run for a
total of 3,518.5 km, La Gazzetta dello Sport said.
Unlike several recent editions it will be run almost
exclusively in Italy, with only one stage outside the country,
in San Marino, and will feature three time trials and five steep
mountain stages, including legendary peaks Gavia and Mortirolo.
The grand finale will be at the sumptuous location of the
ancient Roman amphitheatre in Verona.
The sixth stage will arrive at San Giovanni Rotondo, dear to
Saint Padre Pio.
Last year's Giro was won by Chris Froome.
