Soccer: Ventura takes over at Chievo

Ex-Italy boss gets 2-yr contract at bottom club

(ANSA) - Verona, October 10 - Former Italy boss Gian Piero Ventura was officially named last-placed Chievo Verona's new coach Wednesday, on a two-year contract.
Ventura, 70, replaced Lorenzo D'Anna who was sacked after a 3-1 loss at AC Milan, the club's sixth loss in eight matches.
Former Torino manager Ventura was anxious to get back on a bench after a disastrous spell with the national team that saw Italy fail to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 60 years.
Later Wednesday Ventura will take charge of his first raring session, after which he will be presented, Chievo sources said.
Chievo's only points have come from two draws and the squad has minus-1 point after being deducted three points last month for false accounting.
D'Anna, a former Chievo captain, took over in April when Roland Maran was fired. He helped Chievo finish 13th last season and avoid relegation with three straight wins to conclude the season.
