(ANSA) - Verona, October 9 - Former Italy boss Gian Piero Ventura has been named last-placed Chievo Verona's new coach replacing Lorenzo D'Anna who was sacked after a 3-1 loss at AC Milan, the club's sixth loss in eight matches.
Sources said former Torino manager Ventura, whose appointment will be made official shortly, was anxious to get back on a bench after a disastrous spell with the national team that saw Italy fail to qualify for the World Cup for the first time in 60 years.
On Wednesday Ventura will take charhe of his first raring session, after which he will be presented, Chievo sources said.
Chievo's only points have come from two draws and the squad has minus-1 point after being deducted three points last month for false accounting.
D'Anna, a former Chievo captain, took over in April when Roland Maran was fired. He helped Chievo finish 13th last season and avoid relegation with three straight wins to conclude the season.
