(ANSA) - Genoa, October 9 - Roberto Mancini and his Italy
squad on Tuesday laid a wreath at the site of the bridge
collapse in genoa that killed 43 people on August 14.
The players and coaching staff stood for a few moments in
silence.
The delegation was led by former Genoa goalkeeper Mattia
Perin and Sampdoria striker Gianluca Caprari.
Italy play Ukraine in a friendly in Genoa Wednesday.
On Sunday they travel to Poland for a Nations League match.
"It's really crazy what happened here," said Mancini, who
started his playing career as a striker for Sampdoria.
"I lived in Genoa for 15 years and I passed over this bridge
many times. Seeing it on TV is striking, but it has a different
effect in reality, it's even more striking. It was a moment of
very strong emotion for me".
The squad and coaching staff held up jerseys saying "Azzurri
with Genoa in their hearts".
