Juve win despite Ronaldo red

AS Roma thumped 3-0 at Real Madrid

(ANSA) - Rome, September 20 - Juventus won 2-0 at Valencia in their Champions League opener on Wednesday despite playing most of the match in 10 men due to a controversial red card awarded to Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Portugal star was sent off following a tangle in which he touched Valencia's Jeison Murillo's head. The referee seemed to think he pulled the opponents hair but it was not clear and Juve coach Massimiliano Allegri said the ejection would have been overruled if VAR were used in the competition.
Ronaldo left the pitch in tears.
The Turin giants did not let the setback get them down and pressed on, with Miralem Pjanic giving them a deserved win by converting penalties either side of half time.
AS Roma's poor form so far this season continued when they were thumped 3-0 at holders Real Madrid.
Only a series of good saves by keeper Robin Olsen stopped the scoreline getting embarrassing.
