Tavecchio should quit, says Abete (2)

(ANSA) - Rome, November 20 - Giancarlo Abete, the former president of the Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC), said Monday that his successor Carlo Tavecchio should quit after Italy's shock failure to qualify for 2018 World Cup.
    But he also stressed that Tavecchio was not the only person to blame for the failure.
    "I will ask for Tavecchio's resignation," said Abete, who is now a member of the board of the lower tier championship Lega Pro, said ahead of big FIGC council meeting. "If all the federation councillors want to quit, we will, in part to facilitate a strategic reflection on the future of (Italian) soccer.
    "But if this does not happen, we'll tell President Tavecchio that he is not the only person responsible for this situation". Tavecchio sacked Gian Piero Ventura as Italy coach last week.
