Fed says respected rules on Schwazer (2)

Race walker raised questions about timing of results

(ANSA) - Rome, June 23 - Italian Athletics Federation FIDAL said Thursday that it had fully respected the rules in the case of race walker Alex Schwazer. The 50km walk gold medallist at the 2008 Beijing Olympics passed a test in January but on Wednesday it emerged that his sample was found positive for testosterone when it was retested.
Schwazer, who returned to action in May after a ban for failing a doping test before the 2012 London Olympics, said he was innocent and raised questions about the timing of the new result. The 31-year-old suggested there was a plot to stop him taking part in this summer's Rio Olympics. "(Respect of) the rules have always represented the point of reference and basis for action in the Schwazer case," FIDAL said in a statement.
