Malagò blasts Raggi over Olympic bid

(ANSA) - Rome, May 31 - Italian Olympic Committee President Giovanni Malagò on Tuesday blasted Virginia Raggi, the candidate to be Rome mayor for the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S), for branding the capital's bid to host the 2024 Olympics as "criminal".
Raggi, the frontrunner to become Rome's mayor in local elections in Rome - the first round of which take place on Sunday - had said that "to think of hosting the 2024 Olympics with the debt that the capital has is criminal". Malagò hit back.
"Virginia Raggi's comments are humiliating, offensive and incomprehensible," he said.
"I was very surprised in a negative way," he added. "I hope she clarified what she said or denies it because the world of sport has the right to talk about the bid and hosting the games".
The M5S is against the bid but Premier Matteo Renzi's central government executive is behind it.
