Soccer: Five guilty of Bari match-fixing

In Serie B 2008-9, 13 acquitted

(ANSA) - Baris, May 30 - A Bari judge on Monday sentenced five defendants to terms ranging from six to 18 months in jail and acquitted 13 for fixing two Serie B matches in the 2008-9 season, Salernitana-Bari and Bari-Treviso. The judge found Bari had thrown the matches for a total of 220,000 euros. The defendants were former Bari, Salernitana and Treviso players and managers as well as Bari wheeler-dealer Angelo Iacovelli, all convicted of sporting fraud. Among those acquitted was former Bari captain, now Belgium goalkeeper, Jean Francois Gillet.
