(ANSA) - Rome, April 4 - Lazio sacked coach Stefano Pioli after their poor form continued with Sunday's 4-1 rout at the hands of city rivals AS Roma.
Former Lazio striker Simone Inzaghi, the coach of the Rome club's academy side, has been put in charge for the rest of the season.
Juventus, who are chasing a fifth consecutive Serie A title this season, stretched their lead at the top of the table to six points thanks to a 1-0 win over Empoli.
Second-placed Napoli lost 3-1 at Udinese and risk being without top-scorer Gonzalo Higuain, who laid his hands on the referee's chest after being send off for a second yellow card, for several matches.
Third-placed Roma are now just four points behind Napoli with seven games to go. Fourth-placed Fiorentina were held 1-1 by Sampdoria, fifth-placed Inter lost 2-1 to Torino and sixth-placed AC Milan went down by the same margin to Atalanta.
