(ANSA) - Rome, November 18 - Italy captain Sergio Parisse and former Juventus and Azzurri soccer star Alessandro Del Piero joined the world of sport in paying tribute to rugby great Jonah Lomu on Wednesday. The former All Black winger, who scored 37 tries in 63 tests and had long suffered from kidney disease, has died at the age of 40. "Rest in peace champion," said Parisse on social media as he posted a photo of Lomu, who became a worldwide star thanks to his remarkable performances at the 1995 Rugby World Cup.
"#JonahLomu a legend for every single rugby player".
Del Piero used Twitter to express his admiration and sadness.
"He was what (Diego) Maradona was for football," said the 2006 World Cup-winner.
"Goodbye legend: you'll never be forgotten".
