Maradona faces 'hand of God' trial

(ANSA) - Genoa, March 5 - Former soccer great Diego Maradona is set to go on a 'virtual trial' in Genoa next week over the famous 'hand of God' goal he scored against England at the 1986 World Cup.
    Maradona scored the opening goal of the World Cup quarterfinal with his hand to set Argentina on the way to a 2-1 win as part of their victorious campaign at Mexico 1986. Maradona then dribbled past five England players for Argentina's second goal in the match - an effort widely considered the best goal of all time.
    The 54-year-old is accused of "homicide" for having "killed sporting fairness" with the hand of God goal.
    Although the March 13 trial at Genoa University is only for fun, it will be presided over by a real judge, Calabrese Salvati.
    Lawyers Andrea and Simone Vernazza will represent the prosecution, while Antonio Lucisano and Francesco Pinto, who are usually prosecutors, will defend Maradona.
