(ANSA) - Rome, January 26 - Juventus are six points clear at the top of Serie A after the latest in a series of excellent performances by Paul Pogba steered the reigning champions to a 2-0 home win over third-bottom Chievo Verona on Sunday.
The Turin giants, who are aiming for a fourth consecutive league title, were able to extend their lead as second-placed AS Roma were held 1-1 at Fiorentina - their third consecutive draw.
French midfielder Pogba, 21, drilled home from outside the box on the hour mark and he sparked the scramble that enabled Stephan Lichtsteiner to double the advantage 13 minutes later.
Juve have 49 points from 20 games, while Roma have 42 after an Adem Ljajic goal cancelled out Mario Gomez's opener and gave them a point in Florence Lazio climbed from fifth to joint-third by coming from behind to beat AC Milan 3-1 on Saturday with a goal from Miroslav Klose and a double by midfielder Marco Parolo.
The Rome side have 34 points and share third place with Sampdoria, who drew 1-1 with Palermo at home.
Napoli can regain third place - good for a slot in the Champions League preliminaries - as a win at home against Genoa later on Monday would put them on 36 points.
Milan are 10th with 26 points and the defeat to Lazio has hiked up the pressure on coach Filippo Inzaghi.
Their city rivals Inter are also on 26 points following a shock 1-0 home defeat to Torino.
