(ANSA) - Turin, November 21 - Azzurri coach Antonio Conte on Friday praised Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri's proposed summit between Italy's 20 Series A coaches to debate ways to improve Italian soccer.
"It would be a constructive debate to try to improve what, if anything, needs improving," Allegri said after Conte complained of the dire state of the sport in Italy. "Italian soccer is not going in the right direction," Conte told RAI public broadcaster earlier this week.
"We have to take this on, and go from words to deeds.
"The players have to rediscover the desire to work hard, or else this will only be the start of a decline".
On Friday, Conte said Allegri's proposal was just the ticket.
"It's what I wanted," he told ANSA. "If we want to become more internationally competitive, I believe it is crucial to talk about training methods".
The national team coach went on to say he also wants to meet with his counterparts from Serie B, the Pro League, junior teams, and Italian amateur soccer league Lega Nazionale Dilettanti (LND).
"We need to work together for a common objective, which is the growth of Italian soccer," said Conte.
