(ANSA) - New York, August 22 - Rome Mayor Ignazio Marino and the American owner of AS Roma soccer club, James Pallotta, have struck a deal that features a new stadium to be built in the Italian capital, sources at the mayor's office said Friday.
The deal reportedly includes construction of a subway station and a new park on the Tiber river as part of the stadium project, which also includes a commercial area and three towers to be designed by Polish architect Daniel Libeskind.
"We are expecting a feasibility study on the new elements by the end of August," the sources said.
Construction is set to begin later this year on the new AS Roma stadium seating up to 52,000 spectators in the city's southern Tor di Valle neighbourhood.
