Atalanta chairman arrives in MiG fighter at event

Percassi vows to 'bomb' Serie A rivals

(ANSA) - Bergamo, July 23 - The president of the northern Italian soccer club Atalanta arrived in style at an annual celebration with supporters, driving a vintage MiG fighter jet with a banner promising to "bomb" its league rivals.
President Antonio Percassi, along with other Atalanta directors, were cheered by as many as 15,000 supporters of the Bergamo club as they arrived in the Russian military aircraft at Monday night's event.
It is not the first time the Atalanta club has created a dramatic - and controversial - entrance to an event.
Last year, to announce the signing of Atalanta midfielder Giulio Migliaccio, a Second World War-era tank was driven over cars painted in the colour of the club's traditional soccer rivals.
Prosecutors referred Migliaccio and the club to the national disciplinary committee of the Italian Soccer Federation (FIGC) over the incident.
Migliaccio apologized for the stunt, where two cars were crushed, one representing AS Roma and the local rival Brescia.
Photos appeared on newspaper front pages of the car crushing, which critics said went beyond the boundaries of sport rivalries.
Migliaccio said he was on the tank to greet fans but didn't realize the plan was to crush representatives of team rivals.
