COVID: admissions up 11.1%, ICUs up 28%

(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 5 - COVID 19 hospital admissions in Italy rose 11.1% in the week from November 25 to December 1, while admissions to ICUs were up 28%, the GIMBE health foundation said Monday.
    Admissions with symptoms increased by 11.1% (845 more, from 7,613 to 8.458), and admissions to intensive care increased by 28% (70 more, from 250 to 320).
    In the same period period, there was also a 9.5% increase in deaths (from 580 to 635, i.e 55 more, 14 of which refer to previous periods).
    Vaccinations against Covid-19 were still in decline in Italy, both in the first dose (-1.3%) and in the third and the fourth (which currently has a coverage of 26.9%), while for fifth dose, there is still no official data; the number of people not vaccinated in our country are 6.7 million.
    New cases of Covid-19 remained substantially stable in the week between 25 November and December 1 compared to the previous week, according to the independent monitoring by the Gimbe Foundation. However "the number of new cases per week is no longer a reliable indicator of viral circulation, which is underestimated by at least 50%," notes the Foundation's president, Nino Cartabellotta The number of positives is not reliable, he adds, 'both for the widespread use of 'do-it-yourself' swabs, and the failure to test asymptomatic or low-symptomatic people".
