IAEA DG meets Italian PM in Rome

(ANSA) - ROME, SEP 7 - Premier Mario Draghi and International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi met at the premier's office in Rome Wednesday and discussed the IAEA's recent mission to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine, the state of negotiations on the Iranian nuclear programme, and the energy crisis sparked by the Russo-Ukrainian conflict, Palazzo Chigi said.
The IAEA has called for Zaporizhzhia, Europe's biggest nuclear power plant, to be left clear by its Russian occupants amid dangerous shelling from both sides in the conflict.
Some progress in the Iranian nuclear talks has lately been seen, while all Western countries, to a greater of lesser degree, are struggling with skyrocketing energy costs due to Russia's invasion of its neighbour and its 'energy blackmail' of Europe.
The plant has been occupied by Russia since the early days of the war and come under repeated attack, with both sides blaming each other. UN inspectors observed damage at the power station during a visit last week. (ANSA).
