Italy-China Science Week

(ANSA) - Naples, October 27 - The seventh edition of Italy-China Science, Technology & Innovation Week proves the two countries share a joint vision on the value of scientific research, Education Minister Stefania Giannini said Thursday in Naples.
    She spoke at Naples' Città della Scienza (City of Science) museum in the presence of Chinese Science and Technology Minister Wan Gang.
    "There is a shared vision of the strategic value of research and the formation of the ever more qualified human capital (we need) to face the great challenges requiring long-term policies and investments, without being slaves to the short-term," Giannini said, citing health care for an aging global population, climate change, and mass migrations.
    Her Chinese counterpart agreed.
    "China and Italy must promote growth and the strategic opportunities that innovation brings with it (in the knowledge that) talents can be used in common if we are to meet the expectations of the future," Gang said.
    The two countries are working to "build an ever wider cooperation platform in order to solve problems such as environmental pollution and helping a greater number of students realize their dreams," the Chinese minister said. Italy and China share a strong scientific and cultural relationship that has been consolidating over time, Giannini added.
    "This year's science week features innovative tools, such as the meeting of the network of start-ups that Chinese Science and Technology Minister Wan Gang and I launched some months ago," the Italian minister said.
    Today the start-ups network has become a reality and can benefit from funding for exchange programs so young Chinese and Italian entrepreneurs can experience and learn from each other's systems, Giannini explained.
