Inventors' fair debuts in Venice

(ANSA) - Venice, October 11 - The first edition of the International Inventors Exhibition (IIE) opens October 13 at Venice's Pala Expo with a roster of innovators from around the world. Some 60 projects from Colombia, Egypt, Italy, Japan, Poland, Spain, and the UAE were selected based on the quality and applicability of their inventions.
    These include auxiliary devices for the handicapped, wearable technologies, anti-seismic and biocompatible building components, techniques for growing plants in outer space, and others to turn industrial sites into massive greenhouses. "The Venice fair offers inventors a chance to share their experiences and get together," director Gianfranco Gramola said during the presentation.
    "We believe the passion and pleasure of being together are fundamental," Gramola said. "This is why we're inviting people to not only visit the stands, but also and especially to speak to the inventors to give them important feedback." The 'godmother' of the event cutting the ribbon at 11:30 on Thursday will be Irene Scarpa, a Venetian researcher who invented a nanogel for cleaning monuments. The IIE is organized by d-nest, a privately funded spinoff of the computer sciences department of the University of Verona.
    It runs through October 16.
