ISS dark matter detector spots 'strange' signals

Possible evidence of particles that compose mysterious stuff

(ANSA) - Rome, April 15 - A dark matter detector, the Alpha Magnetic Spectrometer (AMS), mounted on the exterior of the International Space Station (ISS) has picked up "strange" signals, experts said on Wednesday. The signals could be indirect evidence of the particles that form the mysterious stuff that makes up around a quarter of the known universe. Unlike normal matter, dark matter does not interact with the electromagnetic force. This means it does not absorb, reflect or emit light, making it extremely hard to spot. Scientists have been able to infer the existence of dark matter only from the gravitational effect it seems to have on visible matter.
