Ebola patient's condition 'worse'

Emergency doctor in treatment has high fever, profound fatigue

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - Rome, December 1 - The general condition of the Italian doctor who contracted Ebola in Sierra Leone "has deteriorated slightly," Rome's Spallanzani Institute for infectious diseases said on Monday. Spallanzani doctors said the patient continued to have "high fever, profound fatigue and widespread skin eruptions". The patient is a 50-year-old doctor who returned to Italy last week after contracted the deadly virus while working for medical-aid NGO Emergency.
The Rome clinic stressed that there were many positives about the man's condition, too.
These included him being self-sufficient, breathing autonomously and having normal kidney functioning.
The Spallanzani added that the patient was not having any adverse responses to the experimental therapy that he is receiving, including infusions of plasma taken from people who have recovered from Ebola.
