(ANSA) - Rome, November 27 - The condition of an Italian doctor who contracted Ebola in Sierra Leone has improved after it deteriorated late on Wednesday, Rome's Spallanzani Institute said on Thursday. "His fever increased and there was a deterioration of his clinical condition (late Wednesday)," Spallanzani doctors told a news conference. "During the night there was a gradual improvement, with a significant decrease in the temperature". The patient, who got the deadly virus while working for the medical-aid NGO Emergency, is being treated with a therapy that uses plasma from a convalescent, the Spallanzani said. The 50-year-old started the therapy on Wednesday after returning from Africa on Tuesday. They said that the plasma arrived from Spain "thanks to a chain of support and solidarity from the institutions, the scientific community, the pharmaceutical companies and the transport firms".
