(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 10 - The Senate on Wednesday approved a ruling-majority resolution committing the government to "continue to support the Ukrainian government authorities also through the transfer of means, materials and military equipment, in line with the commitments made and with further agreements in the frameworks of NATO and EU, as well as in the international fora to which Italy belongs".
The resolution, which also called for the government to support "all diplomatic efforts" to end the war and bring about "a fair, lasting, balanced peace", was approved with 103 votes in favour, 24 against and 27 abstentions.
Earlier in the day it was approved by the Lower House.
The votes came after Defence Minister Guido Crosetto briefed lawmakers on the decision taken by the government to extend by a further year military aid to Kyiv n the war sparked by the Russian invasion in February 2022.
Crosetto told the House Italy's "support to Ukraine remains strong and totally unchanged", adding however that "it seems the moment has come for incisive diplomatic action alongside the aid we are providing because there is a series of important signals coming from both sides". (ANSA).
