(see related story) (ANSA) - ROME, DEC 28 - The European Commission today paid the fourth installment of 16.5 billion euros to Italy for implementation of its post-Covid national recovery and resilience plan (NRRP), the premier's office at Palazzo Chigi said in a statement on Thursday.
"The payment is the result of the achievement, ascertained by the European Union, of all 28 milestones and targets linked to the fourth tranche," continued the statement.
"These objectives and targets concern measures needed to continue implementing reforms in the areas of justice and public administration, as well as important reforms in the areas of social inclusion and public procurement," said the premier's office, adding that the main investments are related to "digitalisation, particularly with regard to the transition of local public administration data to the cloud, the development of the space industry, green hydrogen, transport, research, education and social policies".
"As announced by Premier Giorgia Meloni, the fourth installment has been paid before the end of 2023 and it brings to approximately 102 billion euro the total NRRP resources so far obtained by Italy, corresponding to more than half of the Plan's total resources," the statement continued.
"This demonstrates the great progress made by Italy in achieving the planned measures," it added.
"On the basis of the Plan as amended recently by the European Council, the Meloni government will continue to work on the full and timely implementation of the PNRR, within the framework of continuous and close cooperation with the European Commission," concluded the statement. (ANSA).
