(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 13 - The government's Mattei Plan to boost energy partnerships with Africa and cooperation on halting irregular migration flows is to be written together with African countries, Premier Giorgia Meloni said on Friday.
"We have had to postpone to January the Italy-Africa conference that was scheduled for November in order to better understand the picture of the evolving international situation," said Meloni in joint statements with Mozambican President Filipe Nyusi after their meeting in Maputo.
"The President of Mozambique has guaranteed his presence and cooperation in the drafting of the Mattei Plan," said Meloni.
"There would be nothing new about presenting a plan to Africa.
What is new is to write it together, set priorities and implement a strategy," she added.
"The Mattei Plan will be supported by our Climate Fund, which will therefore impact African nations," continued the premier, adding that 70% of the fund would be dedicated to Africa, the equivalent of around 3 billion euro.
This, she said, is "an important investment with which we would like to push the whole EU into taking a new approach".
Meloni also said the leaders had discussed "fighting terrorism because stability and peace are the basis for any strategic development".
"We want to push our companies to invest more, and there is work we can do together. We continue to be ready to play our part.
Without stability it is much more difficult to produce the prosperity that is needed," she added. (ANSA).
