(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 5 - The government is only doing what the
previous government of Mario Draghi did in removing the Audit
Court's 'concomitant' oversight powers on the National Recovery
and Resilience Plan (NRRP), Premier Giorgia Meloni said Monday.
The court and the political opposition have slammed the
government's move, in a public-administration decree, to strip
the auditors of concurrent oversight powers, only leaving them
with subsequent control powers.
"The left is very much in trouble. It is not only saying that
there is an authoritarian drift if on the Court of Auditors you
extend the rules of the Draghi government. I summarily observe
that we are doing what the previous government did," Meloni told
the Quarta Repubblica news programme on Berlusconi channel
Retequattro.
"The problem is that there is an authoritarian drift if someone
who comes from the right and not the left does not have the same
rights as they have. That is a problem. They say there is an
authoritarian drift on the Court of Auditors which continues to
do the checks, does the six-monthly report and no one has put a
gag on it". (ANSA).
