(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 17 - The Senate on Wednesday unanimously approved a bipartisan motion committing the government to work towards the global decriminalisation of gay sex.
Wednesday was the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOT).
The motion commits the government "to support in the competent European and international institutional fora a broad coalition of States to promote the universal decriminalisation of conduct relating to consensual relations between adult persons of the same sex and to guarantee the respect of universal human rights.
Italian LGBTQIA+ group Gaynet hailed the motion saying it at least temporarily "placed Italy outside the Visegrad Group".
