(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 20 - Emilia-Romagna Governor Stefano
Bonaccini and his former deputy, the more leftwing MP and ex-MEP
Elly Schlein are through to the primaries for the election of
the new leader of the centre-left Democratic party (PD) after
former premier Enrico Letta said he was stepping down after the
PD disappointed in the September 25 general election, according
to data from PD chapters announced Monday.
In the nationwide PD chapter vote, Bonaccini got 52.
Voting took place between February 3 and February 19.
The primaries will take place at so-called 'gazebos' around the
country on February 26.
Non party members will also be able to vote, not just
card-carrying PD members.
There were two other candidates in the chapter vote, former
party chair Gianni Cuperlo and former minister Paolo De Micheli.
Cuperlo got 7.96% with 12,008 votes and De Micheli 4.29% with
6.475 votes. (ANSA).
