(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 29 - Institutional reform to give Italy a
French-style presidential or semi-presidential system is among
the government's priorities, Premier Giorgia Meloni said at her
year end press conference Thursday.
Government MPs have filed a bill to introduce the direct
election of Italian presidents, rather than them being elected
by parliament as is currently the case.
"We need governments that are the fruit of a clear popular
indication," said Meloni.
"Institutional reform and presidentialism are top priorities for
my government". (ANSA).
