Conservative journo replaces Melandri at MAXXI

(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 24 - Conservative journalist Alessandro Giuli has been named to replace former centre-left Democratic Party (PD) culture minister Giovanna Melandri at the helm of Rome's MAXXI contemporary art museum.
    Giuli, 47, a journalist for conservative daily Libero, was named by Culture Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano to replace Melandri whose 10-year presidency of the highly regarded museum ended on November 1.
    Giuli, a regular political talk show guest on all Italian TV channels, will take up his new post on December 12.
    The Italian capital's most international and glamorous art institution, the MAXXI opened in 2010 in an iconic building designed by late famous Iraqi-British architect, artist and designer Zaha Hadid.
    The previous Italian government led by ex European central banker Mario Draghi launched an ambitious expansion project of the 21st century art and architecture museum.
    Sangiuliano, named culture minister as part of rightwing Premier Giorgia Meloni's new government, said Giuli would now oversee the implementation of that project. (ANSA).
