League stands by flat tax, early retirement pledges

Confindustria said State couldn't afford these measures

(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 4 - The consensus among the members of Matteo Salvini's League party taking part in the group's federal council in Rome on Tuesday was that it should stand by election pledges to introduce a flat tax at 15% for people earning up to 100,000 euros and to make it easier for people to take early retirement, sources said.
The League is proposing a pension reform that would make it possible for people to retire early if they have 41 years of social-security contributions.
The League also wants the incoming centre-right government to adopt large-scale measures to help people with soaring energy prices, the sources said.
On Monday Confindustria President Carlo Bonomi said that "we cannot afford to contemplate a flat tax and early retirement" arguing it would put too much pressure on the public finances.
