Giorgia Meloni's general-election win "is the Tolkien generation
getting into the premier's office", her friend the intellectual
Pietrangelo Buttafuoco told liberal La Repubblica daily Monday
referring to the Hobbit Camps where the future FdI chief and her
generation nurtured their cult admiration for the work of J.R.R.
Tolkien as expressing "what conservatives believe in" as she
recently told the New York Times.
"It is the win of the (working class Roman beach) Coccia di
Morto over (highbrow liberal watering hole) Capalbio",
Buttafucoo went on.
"It is the ex-baby sitter who made it, scorning all the little
ladies of the Roman upper class.
"Giorgia has triumphed not because she is rightwing or a head of
a political community, but because she has become the terminal
for a collective expectation".
Buttafuoco said that around Meloni "an expectation has developed
on the part of all the Italians outside the power systems, who
have seen themselves in her". (ANSA).
