(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 19 - The populist 5-Star Movement (M5S) on
Friday published its list of candidates for the September 25
general election.
The candidates were approved in a record high vote in an online
poll of M5S members earlier this week.
The list also includes a 15-strong list of 'blocked' candidates
aiming for safer seats, drawn up by party leader and ex-premier
Giuseppe Conte.
Conte will lead the M5S ticket in four Italian regions: Lombardy
1 (in two seats), Campania 1 (first constituency), Puglia 1 and
Sicily 1 (first constituency).
M5S House candidates include former Turin mayor Chiara
Appendino, former national anti-mafia prosecutor Federico
Cafiero de Raho, and former environment minister Andrea Costa.
Its Senate candidates include outgoing Farm Minister Stefano
Patuanelli, Senate Whip Ettore Licheri, former Palermo
prosecutor Roberto Scarpinato and another party bigwig, Senator
Mario Turco. (ANSA).
