(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 27 - The centre-left coalition won seven of the 13 provincial capitals that went to runoffs on Sunday in an important round of local elections, prevailing in Verona, Parma, Piacenza, Cuneo, Catanzaro, Alessandria and Monza.
In Verona, the new mayor is former AS Roma midfielder Damiano Tommasi.
The centre right paid the price for not presenting a united front in all of the contests and won four of the provincial capitals, Frosinone, Lucca, Gorizia and Barletta, while two went to independent civic lists - Como and Viterbo.
The turnout was just 42.16%, down from 54.11% in the first round. (ANSA).
