(ANSA) - ROME, MAY 26 - The government has tapped diplomat
Andrea Benso as Italy's new religious freedom envoy, Deputy
Foreign Minister Marina Sereni told the Lower House foreign
affairs committee Thursday.
Benso, hitherto serving on the general directorate for public
and cultural diplomacy, will take up his post as special envoy
for religious freedom and inter-religious dialogue shortly, she
said.
The new position was unanimously approved by the committee a few
months ago on a motion from the rightwing League party. (ANSA).
