Italy has stockpile of 1,100 bn of uncollected taxes-Ruffini

Tax agency chief says huge total is 'unmanageable'

(ANSA) - ROME, APR 7 - Enrico Maria Ruffini, the director of the Italian tax agency, L'Agenzia delle Entrate, said Thursday that Italy has an "unmanageable" stockpile of 1,100 billion euros of uncollected taxes.
He told a parliamentary committee that every year 70 billion euros of tax credits join the stockpile while only 10 billion are paid off.
He said that, at the moment, the agency has tax-dispute cases with around 16 million people.
"Italy is the only country in the world to have such a stockpile," Ruffini said.
"No one has a stockpile of 22 years of credits.
"Parliament has been informed since 2015. A stockpile like this cannot be managed".
He said various amnesties and initiatives to encourage people to settle their cases with the tax authorities had not led to significant reductions in the stockpile. (ANSA).
