(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 3 - The Council of Europe on Friday
shelved a case against Italy for migrant detention without
appeal, the CoE's council of ministers said.
It said Italy had introduced a system whereby migrants can
appeal to judges on the legality, duration and conditions of
their detention in reception centres.
This ended a case opened by a CoE sentence in 2016 that
condemned violation of migrants' rights.
The sentence also condemned the arbitrary detention of a group
of migrants in 2011.
Strasbourg has now recognised that Italy has taken steps forward
since the violations were found. (ANSA).
